A Call to Reason is a famous speech given by Eian Smarth. It was recorded by The Scribe who was attending the event.
The speech was made after the Inspired Conflict when the Empire of Valikorlia was under duress by internal pressure as well as raids from monstrous races such as Drow, Witch-Orks, and the Tiefling murders.
It's meant to inspire the commonfolk who have doubts about the Empire for them to join up and fight the good fight. It was largely successful for the Road Wardens who received triple the amount of applications than ever before. Many claim it was also putting a face on the Empire at the time, which was represented through Eian Smarth.

The Speeches' title
Said to have been given its name from Road Warden Commissioner, Marshal Gaffer Tallingway when he was quoted to have said "THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED TO PUT THOSE LAWLESS SONS OF SAHN IN THEIR PLACE! A CALL TO REASON! TELL THEM WHAT'S GOING ON AND GIVE THOSE WHO HAVE IT COMING WHAT FOR!". Eian had heard others rephrasing and found it fitting to be added when chronicled for future reference.
A Paraphrased Synopsis
"Fellow Kharlians, I come to you in the wake of recent events to issue a call to reason. Let none of those of our citizens deny the perils of our time. While some of you may not agree entirely to this Empire, divided by the petty strife of our common history, the tide of a greater conflict is turning against us, threatening to destroy all that we have accomplished. The thin fabric of law that binds us together against our barbaric natures is unwinding.
It is time for us as individuals to set aside our long-standing feuds and unite. The Drowic abortions have spilled from the depths and the daemons have made clear they want our souls. We must seek courage with us upon a higher standing, lest we be swept away by the flood once more.
With our enemies left unchecked, who will protect the common folk? The peasantry? The terror wrought by these Horned Rogues and this despicable Culimination is disgusting. I came here to assure you, be it Enforcer, Road Warden, Man-at-Arms, Guard, or Noble we will help put an end to these mere annoyances. Witnessed have many of our people the consummation of our friends and loved ones by these foes. Precedented, and unimaginable though they may be, these are the signs of our times.
The time has come my fellow Valikorlians, to unite unlike ever before. Bide our treasonous tongues, work as a whole, and help fight against the coming waves that seek ill upon us all. We have countrymen across the White Sea facing off terrors of their own, it is high time we go and unite our peoples. In unity, lies strength. In knowledge, power.
Though as a Smarth many of you think me a tyrant. Let this be known! I fight for you. I shall watch over you. From this day forward heed my words. As a part of this Triumvirate I will make it my duty to protect you. Let no Kharlian take arms against another Kharlian. Let no lawless braggarts whisper conspiracy to your ear against us. And let no citizen sell their soul against us for power. And to all the enemies of our glorious Empire, seek not to stop us. For we shall run all of you through… No matter the cost."

The speech was widely heard and is very popular among politicians, Smarthists, and war historians and can be found in The Grand Hall of Esthras' library. It is also discussed by many philosophers in Greendale such as Franz Hauer as being the speech that defined Eian Smarth.
