Zoratari spent his first twenty seven years as an Empyrian citizen before the the Flood where he disappeared for a few years, supposedly living under another identity. Zoratari was a veteran of the Second Abyssal War and fought against the being known as Tervana. In his later years he worked as a selective mercenary who fought for good causes only, even then only with compensation. In the end he became a zealous vigilante known only as The Executioner.

Biography

Youth

The details of Aroken's youth are largely unknown. It was around this time that some form of trauma to the head caused a short-term memory problem. From what is known though, Aroken was born in Empyria to a young couple, Desdemona and Aroken Zoratari Sr. His father was an elf and his mother a human. While it's not clear how his parents died, he grew up being raised by Priests and Priestesses of Syren and Elan. Aroken spent his first eight years of his life flourishing in the religious orphanage. His dream was to become a Charybdis or eventually a Noble of Empyria. Aroken studied the Theology of Elan and spent much of his time praying. Around this time he was Lawful Good. When he was twelve he was a prodigy of the Temple and went to his first secular Academy.

Supposedly at the Academy the boys didn't accept him as one of their own. Aroken didn't play the usual games, didn't laugh at their jokes, he just sat in the corner reading. This time in his life would lead to his more isolated lifestyle later. Aroken met a girl there with which he had his first love affair, it was over after three years.

Empyrian Military

When he was older he joined the Empyrian Military. Aroken would regularly guard the gates to Empyria. Eventually Aroken made it to the rank of Charybdis, which he defined as "quite possibly my proudest moment". The time of the Second Abyssal War rolled around. Aroken originally stayed at his post but eventually joined the ranks against Tervana. While against Tervana he faught under the banner of Saurvold with the holy warrior Cendamos. During this time he converted from his old alignment to Neutral Good and became a follower of Saurvold.

After the Second Abyssal War was over, Aroken returned to Empyria, this time not as a Charybdis since he wasn't a Syren or Elan follower but as a Head Merchant. For a little while things seemed to work out, the Zoratari name was at least respected locally and he received a clean and secure income. Zoratari decided to work as a Militia as well as Head Merchant. Often times Zoratari would visit Suiriku to train with the martial arts and the sword. Later he is said to have fathered a child illegitimately with a Drow Priestess who was killed a year after the birth of the baby. The baby was killed as well, called an 'Abomination'. The men who killed the drow were Crusaders, Aroken after this became disillusioned with religion and started to question the very existence of deities. Also as a result he received an overwhelming hatred of Warriors for the Churches.

The Flood

The time when Aroken was thought to have been killed or wiped off the face of Kharlia, was during the Flood. During this time however Aroken abandoned Empyria as it flooded and due to his dishonor and shame, disguised himself as a lowly beggar and lived on, saved by the Rope Boat. Later on in after the flood Aroken wandered the streets of Bridgeton doing nothing. Later he saw two thieves beating and robbing a young man in noble's clothing. Aroken with memories of his martial arts skills was able to fend them off and save the man and his wallet. The man gave him a single gold coin as a reward. It was then Aroken got the idea to become a Mercenary. He joined a band of other Mercenaries known as the Civil Bridgeton Brigade.

Stateless Mercenary

Upon having his citizenship to Empyria destroyed in the flood and having no renewed citizenship, there were no records of Aroken's existence to any government. Aroken used this as a way to start a new life. Under the pseudo-name "The Wolf of Justice", he continued to fight with the Civil Bridgeton Brigade Mercenaries, most of who were also Stateless citizens. In a contracted raid on an encampment of orcs the majority of the Brigade was massacred. All of the orcs were defeated but so were all the Mercenaries. Aroken being the only survivor who wasn't missing any limbs or retained serious wounds.

Aroken started to wander around living off of Mercenary contracts. Later he became an avid reader and especially became a fan of John Walte's work, although he didn't embrace him fully. It was at this time that Aroken became Chaotic Good, thinking that government was an illegitimate institution. It is also a time when Aroken started to stop doing contracts that were either by governments or evil aligned. "The Wolf of Justice" eventually joined a group of Monster Hunters and went out to sea. He spent the next few years doing vigilante actions on his own regard and living off of the money stolen from the evil doers.

Vigilante Executioner

Zoratari eventually took up the contract of finding a kidnapped child named Evelyn Smythe who was the 8 year old daughter of a poor peasant farmer in Ganelon. After torturing fifteen criminals for information, found her captor's vacant hideout; a lone cottage in the woods. A cursory inspection revealed, to his horror, that the girl had been raped, murdered, butchered, and fed to two pet Wolves. In the face of this atrocity, Zoratari's mind snapped and assumed a strange mental identity so named "The Executioner" as a separate personality. He went berserk and brutally beat the wolves to death with the hilt of his sword and waited obsessively for the kidnapper. Zoratari later mentioned, "the shock of impact ran along my arm. It was Aroken who whispered 'Evelyn'. It was Aroken who closed his eyes. It was the Executioner who opened them again". When the man returned, Aroken or 'The Executioner' wordlessly chained him to the stone floor where the man chained Evelyn, ignoring his claims of innocence (the man telling the Executioner: "Y-you can't prove anything. I mean, wh-where's the evidence", suggesting that he fed Evelyn to the wolves to get rid of the 'evidence'), then placed an axe near him and set the cottage on fire. Finally speaking, he told the terrified man that he would not have time to cut through his restraints before the fire killed him (implying that he would have to sever his own arm to escape). The Executioner calmly watched the structure burn from the outside; the suspected kidnapper did not emerge.

Since then Zoratari has dawned the mask of an Executioner and has so called himself 'The Executioner'. When a group of concerned citizens around the Kanoshire County area demanded he retire from Vigilantism he became ever more violent, murdering notorious multiple rapist and knight Sir Charles Harverson and leaving his corpse in front of the Greendale Gates; a note stabbed to his chest read, "Never!" True to his word, Zoratari remained an active Vigilante in open defiance of the law.

Personality

Although he was warm and inviting to people he trusted he was cold and apathetic about people who he didn't know or disliked. Aroken is also a giving person when it comes to those he sees as less fortunate. It is also to be of note that he drinks heavily and even then he can be cold and uncaring. He has been called proud and individualistic but to an admirable degree and despite his status as a warrior is often reluctant to actually come to arms. He considers his martial art style "to fight with out the sword" in the sense that he attempts to avoid combat, not that he would fight hand to hand.

Executioner Personality

When it comes to Aroken's reluctance to come to arms in the fight against evil, his other personality is a totally different story. The Executioner is a brutal, violent, but virtuous Vigilante who openly defies the law. Another major difference is the Executioner's lack of sympathy and far stronger sense of justice and goodness. The Executioner would have no qualms killing anyone who got in the way of saving a child's life for example or he would have no problem torturing countless amounts of criminals to save just one innocent life.

Alignment

Zoratari leans between the Chaotic Neutral and Chaotic Good moral poles. He wrote his first essay entitled "Zoratari Contra Walte" attacks Walte's views on amorality, implying that he has at least some moral compass, leaning him towards Good, yet at the same time he detests societal norms and truly thinks selfishness is a valid form of life. Leaning him more away from Good.

The Fallen Templar's Sword

During his work on a contract, Aroken came across the dead body of a rebel Templar who defied the laws of the church to try and save his son. Aroken having heard the story from the weeping widow and the very son he so successfully saved, lifted the sword and sheath from the body and looked to the family proclaiming "his work is not done".

The sword has no magical powers or affiliation but Aroken see's it as a sort of Token to Saurvold in his endless fight for good. He removed the ends of the cross-guard and turned it into a longer, two-handed sword with the help of a few dwarvish blacksmiths and made the blade silver. He renamed it Vigilante Blade in honor of the fallen rebel Templar.

Chain Lightning

  • Casting time: 3 Turns
  • Duration: 1 Turn

  • Type: Lightning
  • Rank I: Arguable one of the most well-known spells in a lightning mage's arsenal, its reputation is not undeserved. The bolt will continue to leap consecutively until its fourth leap, when it will fizzle out. If less than four targets are available, it will fizzle out within the last available target. If one of the targets manages to avoid the bolt, it fizzles out in midair. Many a lightning mage has inadvertently shocked an ally of his with this spell. For the sake of sense during roleplay, the caster chooses who the bolt attempts to leap to and in what order.
