At the dawn of creation, the Ancients wrote upon the very walls of the cosmos a great language of power. This language, Magic, could command change over any and all things within the universe. The lettering and words of this language are protected secrets of the gods, and as such it is little known and understood by mortals.

Magic refers to the spoken form of this language, while Runic is the written form.

Arcana

Each word in the language of power, in magic, is representative of a single concept that does not change. The word Flamus always refers to the concept of Fire, and to speak this word aloud could create a shower of cinders from out of thin air. Mana, which surrounds all things, reacts to the word and becomes fire as it is told.

Arcana refers to the study of magic and its use. Those that speak of arcana do so with utmost care, lest they speak accidentally a word of power that sets their hair aflame or freezes their teeth.

Spells

A Spell is a command spoken in the language of magic. By combining words of power, a developed sentence is made that creates a complex result. To speak Frigus freezes the water in the air, but to speak Frigus Aer Mov freezes the air with frost, creates a gust of wind to carry that frost, and forces that frozen wind to shoot away from the Magi.

Spells require much mana to function. Channeling is an ability that all those who learn to cast spells also seek to master.
