The planes of existence are different realms with interwoven connections. Except for rare linking points, each plane is effectively its own universe with its own natural laws. They could be new worlds, alternative realities, and other dimensions that may exist next door to the world of Kharlia or so distantly far off that they hold no sway over the workings of the mortal world.

Nearly all planes have been created by rituals passed down from the Ancients, using a process known as the Ortus Vita. Some planes occur naturally, however, and there have even been some created by mortals.

Types of Planes

The planes break down into a number of general types: Mortal planes, Divine planes, Transitive planes, and Demiplanes.

Mortal Planes

These planes are the ones most familiar to the player characters and include the setting for the server. Some mortal plans can span galaxies while others contain only a single world. Also known as material planes, for their diverse assortment of materials and elements, they are home to mortal creatures, and there are a limited amount of resources to keep existence going.

Divine Planes

The homes of beings of great power, these planes are also called the spiritual planes, or godly planes. The deities themselves live here, and each of these planes personifies an element of power or a philosophical ideal. The Divine planes are also the final resting place of spirits from the mortal planes, whether that final rest is calm introspection or eternal damnation. These planes have the strongest regular interaction with the mortal planes and are often accessed by using various spells.

Transitive Planes

These are the planes that take you elsewhere, planes of transportation and movement. They are the glue that holds other planes together, but each has its own perils and natural inhabitants. These planes always contain two or more other planes within them, though how they are represented may be anything from a mirror to a locked doorway to a gigantic orb that represents that reality.

Demiplanes

This catch-all category covers any extra dimensional spaces that function like planes but have measurable size and limited access. Other kinds of planes are theoretically infinite in size, but a demiplane might only be a few hundred feet across. Access to demiplanes may be limited to particular locations, such as a fixed gateway, or particular situations, such as the time of year or a weather event. Some demiplanes are created by spells, some naturally evolve, and some appear according to the will of the Ortus Vita at behest of the gods.

List of Planes

Material Planes

Kharlia

This is the main focus of the server, our "earth." It operates under the same set of natural laws as our real-life universe: gravity is normal, the air is oxygen, water is potable, so on and so forth. Kharlia is also the name of the planet, and main continent of the focus of the server. Kharlia has two moons, and exists in a solar system much like our own. It's galaxies have yet to be plotted out or discovered, though the sky is full of stars at night.

The Abyss

A failed, dead plane close to Kharlia in design, the Abyss was created as an experiment by the Ancients to see how creatures adhered to rules in specific ways and how different levels of planar connection affected the environment. It is home to the demons and the fallen.

Divine Planes

Aeromus

The plane of Air, Elan rules with his flight and trains the winged forces of Heaven.

Azurion

The plane of Water, Syren watches over the many chaotic portals in the deepest of depths.

Bered'dûm

The plane of Earth, Ulren broods over the infinite causeways of the Undermountain.

Malgotha

The plane of Fire, Saurvold trains the ground troops and fights a headstrong battle with the hosts of Hell.

The Everdark

A negative energy plane, the Everdark consists of a grayscale version of Kharlia, highlighting places of interest or activity. Necromancers draw their energy for undead here, shadowmancers interact here, and illusionists form illusions from here as well.

The Everlight

A plane within another plane, the Everlight sits inside of the Everdark as an eternal reminder that there is a light in dark places. It is a positive energy plane. Heroes of old that worshiped no gods come here to enjoy eternity, living out their deeds and enjoying a peaceful existence. Guardian spirits often come from this plane.

Evalius

Home to Setengar and Lo, this is a positive energy plane that serves as the home to the Seraphim and the staging grounds for the fight against Hell. It is not a bright, beaming cloud city of gold, but a plane of multiple pleasant areas.

Nuzalheim

Home to Dearuhk and the devils. It is a horrid place of torture and hellfire, where the goddess of Evil corrupts the souls of wicked mortals into devils used in the ideological war on Good. It is a corrupt positive energy plane.

Mechanus

Home to Wol, it is here that the god of Law and his followers keep an eye on universal rules and the rituals left behind by the Ancients. It houses the great Sands of Time.

Transitive Planes

Astral Plane

This plane serves to connect all other planes in a sort of multi-colored space. Numerous ecosystems exist on floating islands and continents in the Astral Plane, with all manner of creature existing there. It is from here that summoners call forth different beasts.

The Void

A choking, prison plane that serves as a barrier between the plane of Kharlia and the Abyss. The Ancients created the Void in the hopes that the tainted failure of the Abyss would never seep into Kharlia. It is unknown is the Void serves as a barrier between the Abyss and any other plane as well.

Demiplanes

Eda

This is Kharlia's demiplane of nature. It is a "thin" plane, wrapped around the entirety of the world. It serves as the spiritual connection for plants and animals. It is what shamans tap into when they speak of totems and the elements (as they relate to nature). It is newly home to the Fae, though they have only discovered it in recent times. The Animal Spirits moved here shortly after it was created.

Verda

This plane is separate, but close, to the mortal realm of Kharlia. It is the world's former plane of nature, before Yutuca severed it from Kharlia. It then shaped itself based on the alignments of it's inhabitants. It is a flat, seemingly-infinite plane but with three boundaries. It is the original home of the Fae.

Xel

Not really a plane so much as a living entity, Xel is the cosmic force of chaos. Also known as the Far Realm, it is not evil, though it conforms to most standards of evil. Xel exists only to change, break down, and recreate everything as chaos mandates. It is a twisted place where strange creatures exist.
