Channeling
From Valwiki
Channeling refers to the act of drawing and directing mana. Magi use channeling to power Spells and Runewords.
How does it work?
Mana can be manipulated through concentration. By willing hard enough, a person can tap into something akin to a hidden muscle, and by flexing that muscle they have the ability to shift and compress mana from out of the world around them. With experience, that person becomes more and more capable of channeling larger amounts of mana.
Why is it needed?
Magic needs mana to be spent as fuel for it to function. Most spells require more mana than is normally found in the immediate area. To overcome these truths, Magi use channeling to power their spells.
Channeling Focus
Mana can be directed more easily with a Channeling Focus, an object that aids in directing and compacting mana. These range from magic wands and staves to holy symbols and totems and more. These objects are not necessary for channeling, but they make it noticeably easier to do.
