History

During the brief rule of Desmond Kingsley II of Port Wolfe, he traveled to the northern part of the continent, where a man named Vaslavil Katissimo taught him the science of alchemy and thus the rest of his life started. After Vaslavil Katissimo became the Chancellor of the Second Valikorlian Empire, he had traveled back to the Tracellian Port Wolfe and settled down, studying not only alchemy, but law, literature, art, and other scholarly areas.

After the fall of Tracello and the rise of the Mighty Empire, he was offered a lab to continue his studies by the newly appointed leader of Port Wolfe. Soon after, Soltus, the Wicked (though, nobody to this day knows his name), removed him from the clocktower in which he lived. They both made their way to the Tsarina's audience, in which she said that the leader of Port Wolfe unlawfully leased the clocktower, but a home paid for by the Empire would be built to house Franz-Josef and his lab.

Personality

Franz-Josef is oft-times describes as stately; impressive and imposing as such of the Tsar. He is tight-lipped, only speaking when his knowledge is needed. As most citizens of Port Wolfe have observed, he is very reserved and spends most of his time in his manor just outside of port city. On his trips in to the city, he usually goes to the South Kharlian Trading Company to buy herbs and daily foods. Every now and then, they might see him handing out bread or coins to children walking along the boardwalk.

As a scholar and alchemist, he is very knowledgeable. As one of lawful neutral moral alignment, he acts logically and keeps an organized life. Also, because of his alignment, he is quite reliable, but at the expense of being strategic. He makes friends with those that can raise his social bar, and enemies that accompany those friends.

Discoveries

Blackpowder

What started off as an experiment to create a firework that would travel higher and explode with a greater diameter turned out to be a creation of a very volatile substance. The discarding of failed mixtures of sulfur and charcoal in to a never-used mulch pile filled with a naturally occurring mineral, salt-petre, was the start of this discovery. After a large explosion created from lighting the pile on fire (as to get rid of the flammable sulfur and charcoal), further studies of nearby piles revealed the powdery white substance. After further experiments Franz-Josef found the perfect ratio of salt-petre, charcoal, and sulfur.

Villa von Liechtenstein

Villa von Liechtenstein

Villa von Liechtenstein is a large estate built by the orders of Her Serene Highness after Franz-Josef's deed to the clocktower in Port Wolfe was nulled.

Some time in to the construction of the Villa, the Tsar had seized control and placed a Komissar that forbade anyone to enter. This, of course, infuriated Franz-Josef. He took a carriage to Selnic and had a personal audience with the Tsar himself, who, after hearing the argument, gave Franz-Josef permission to continue construction, and also gave him a small militia to protect the manor, the lab, and the discoveries stored within it.

However, this peaceful stance did not last too long. Franz-Josef, fearful of what this new government would do in the future, seceded his land from Imperial Dalmar, his militia the only thing protecting him.
