Personality

While she was alive and young, Gaiden was a happy and optomistic gal. Her faith in Setengar was unshakable. However, as she became more and more engulfed in the politics of Valikorlia and the troubles of Kharlia she began to lose her happy nature, becoming sadder and more burdened by her responsiblity. This burden grew even greater when Setengar vanished. Gaiden had to remain faithful to her congregation despite the doubts she had. After the flood destroyed most of the earth, Gaiden returned to Valikorlia as a cold, lonely person. When she became undead, she was not evil by any means, but still held contempt and envy for the living, which often comes out whens peaking to her.

Equipment

Staff of Calara: Arguably, this one powerful item shaped Gaiden's history more than any other event or person. This seemingly simple staff is made of a light wood and has a fist size orb on it's top. The orb glows white if the holder is magical in nature. The most potent power of the staff was that a small portion of Calara Highwater's spirit remained within the staff. Therefore, the wielder could communicate with the old lady. Gaiden was destined to have this staff. It was given to her by Draiken Nefer after Calara died. Throughout Gaiden's days as a priest, Calara was able to give Gaiden advice and help her become a more potent magic user. With the fall of mana, the staff lost it's power, but Gaiden held onto it until the flood, when she lost it to the waters. Still, she searches Kharlia, hoping to find it.

Abilities

Shade Status:As a shade, Gaiden cannot truly come in contact with the world. She can be seen and heard, but cannot touch. Therefore, she is pretty much impervious to physical might, but cannot do anything to effect the physical world, including magic.

Background

Gaiden was born in Taron, to parents she would never know. She was abandoned at a small orphanage, where she would live a humble, yet happy life. She stayed in that small orphanage until she was about Twelve. At that point, she became a maid working for a wealthy family in the upper districts of Taron. She didn't make much money, of course but she was happy nonetheless. Gaiden never wanted to become a solider, a mage or anything of great importance, no, she only desired a simple life with the people she cared about, but destiny had other things in mind for Gaiden. Taron was in a state of turmoil. The dastardly king of Valikorlia, Gwydion Xanthica attacked the city after Taron did away with their unjust king. The city was destroyed by crusaders and many inocents died in the conflict. Gaiden escaped with the help of two strangers. One, a Drow by the name of Draiken Nefer gave Gaiden the powerful staff of Calara and the other, who wore a green cloak was Highren Starstalker, Gaiden's twin brother helped her escape to neutral territory where she would be safe. Many would be angry even hateful to Valikorlia for doing what it did. Gaiden felt only pity for Valikorlia. The nation had become corrupted and twisted. Gaiden found a new calling...she would go on to Valikorlia and become a Priest. She would aid the nation in clensing itself of the evil that had overcome it.

Gaiden trained to become a Priestess for ten years and was finally ordained shortly after Masa became king of Valikorlia. Gaiden delighted in her atmosphere. However, Corruption was stirring up trouble in Kharlia. One corrupt in particular, Karasu was causing trouble for Gaiden. Calara's spirit forced Gaiden(through nagging) to help Karasu with his corruption. Karasu would have none of it. He stole the staff of Calara and killed Gaiden...
It was not over yet. Corruption died and Gaiden was brought back to life. Karasu, who felt guilty returned the Staff to Gaiden. Gaiden was now, more than ever prepared to aid Valikorlia into spiritual bliss. She was promoted to Bishop when Trent Harbinger became king and later Arch-Bishop when Requiem decided to seperate himself from Valikorlia. Gaiden's body began to take on a much holier appearance. Her hair was white as snow and her eyes were a light gray. Gaiden did well in her position. She couldn't have been happier.

Shortly after Gaiden became Arch-Bishop tragedy stiked the world. The evil Yutuca cut off the gods powers in the world. Gaiden was forced to lead her congregation through a spiritual crisis. She had to remain absolutely faithful that Setengar returned, even though she was begining to have her own doubts. Eventually, Gaiden snapped. During the flood she remained in the church, babbling nonsesically about how Setengar would stop the flood before the church could be destroyed. Of course, the church was destroyed and Gaiden was dragged onto the rope boat, kicking and screaming. That was the last time she was seen...

30 years later...Gaiden reemerged into the public as a very different person. She had spent last 30 years searching for her staff and for Setengar. This life alone was very dificult on Gaiden and caused her to lose much of her people skills. Gaiden was still a good person, but came off distant, cold and even cruel at times. She remained uninvolved in wordly politics and events. Gaiden left the city to go on another pilgrimage. She headed up a mountain to pray...but the elements proved to fierce for the fragile elven girl...She died. Moments later, Azenthius Esthras passed by her corpse. He revived her from the death, as a shade. She would be incapable of interacting with the world physiclaly, but could still share her thoughts. Gaiden had a great deal of contempt for her new fate. She remembers vividly the warm embrace of Setengar as she sat with him Paradise. For a while, she took to beleiving that no one deserved Paradise if she could nor obtain it, but gradually loss these feelings of self pity. Even though Gaiden Starstalker is undead, she is still commited to seeing the world free of evil and even though no one may apreciate it, she will still do all she can for the force of good.
