Explanation of the document itself

The Celdin War Reports are a series of documents created ICly by Eian Smarth during his time as General and then First Citizen of Celdin. For the most part, they reported on Smarth's war against the Kender of Hylund. While they are technically separate documents, they are presented here in the final, collected version.

IC availability of the document

Because the war reports were meant as freely available documents informing the people of the progress with Smarth's war against the Kender, the war reports are easy to come by. While they are no longer in print, their wide original distribution means that they are almost freely available for any who seeks to peruse them.

The Work Itself

Celdin War Report on Hylund, Week 5

Eian Smith has been trying harder to get politically support from the Eastern Council to get more supplies for his men stationed in their stainpoint in what the Kender call their Entrance Caves and southern Hylund. The last four weeks did not prove to be as easy as expected. Eian was sure he would have Hylund for the ripe taking by now, but due to unexpected and unorthadox Kender tactics from their over zealous 'war chief' Kizo, Eian has had to use more guerrla type tactics to fight back. However not many men have been lost. Only 9, and they managed to capture 6 Kender, which 2 have already escaped from a barred cage somehow. And managed to kill another in combat.

One of his men at the start when as a merchant and recon at Whatsumburg but a week later killed himself due to mass stress. Four died from badger traps, which wasnt intentionally, they just werent aware Kender hunted. Two died from cave-ins from the entrance caves when they we're digging for minerals. And one died imapling himself on a Hylund Fence because he didnt think they would be everywhere when riding his horse to recon. And the last died chasing a Kender, but each fell into a fox trap and died instantly.

Eian talks still victoriously about the war, and has no belief anyway that he will lose it. And he has started catapulting the Kender fort with his now one catapult but expects to get more soon.

The Kender have been seen training in the Northern Honeybee Forests by an unknown humanoid figure.

Eian Smarth has posted the follow Kender Villians as high bounties to all in Celdin:

~ Tindertot the Wretched, 30g and 50s for his Topknot and Purple bag.

Kotter the Terrible, 15g for his Topknot and Monicle.

Rusty the Vile, 10g for his Hat and Syren's Song.

Kizo the Tricky, 10g for his Generals Medallion and Rusty Chapak.

Darim the Dastardly, for making toys to manipulate the children of Celdin, 5g for his Cuffs and Woodcrafting kit.

And 1s and 30c for any other Kender topknot of pouches of stolen goods.

Celdin War Report on Hylund, Week 8

Celdin has finally passed the notion that Eian Smarth can now use all the needed forces he wants to crush the Kender opposition to the north. Eian no longer wastes time with diplomatic affairs, as the Kenderkin seem to ingnore all his requests for surrender. With the help of the Lionnes and Tarsonus Trading Comapny, Eian has made a strong trading partner and now has his hands on a variety of ballistas, catapults, and better armourment for his men against the wicked traps the Kender have set up for them like their numerous wild fences in the vast fields used to scare horses. Now Celdin occupies small farmsteads in the southern fields, but some are being resiliant to the occupation...

Which brings up to the new new death toll, Eian has lost six more men to the infirmary wards in a Kender skirmish in the woods beside the pond in the southern Hylund fields. There the Kender sprouted from the bushes, again led by the strange green garbed, tall hooded man. He shouted for them to attack, and they all pelted us with rocks, one crushed mans cranium and the rest were injured. How the Kender learned these 'tactics' from the strange man is indeed odd, and Eian feels to take the rest of the field he must first find some way to confront and destroy this man. However, Eians men did not suffer full defeat but captured 12 more Kender captives, and slew 4 of thier men as well. More men are marching towards the Eian base HQ in the once woods called Dunharrow.

Eian Smarth has posted the follow Kender Villians as high bounties to all in Celdin:

~ Mysterious Green Garbed Humanoid, 30g for his indentity alone, and 60g for his head and garb.

The rest of the bounties remain the same.

Tindertot the Wretched, 30g and 50s for his Topknot and Purple bag.

Celdin War Report on Hylund, Week 10

Eian is pleased to reveil he has captured the most infamous of Kender, Tindertot Rastleknot, who quiet litterally walked into the generals room in the castle, and gave himself up. Stating he knew nothing of the vile ways of Kender, or even the war itself. Tinder has been thrown in Eians personal jails, where he will soon be trialed for his hainouis crimes against the nations of the world in grand theft. As Eian seeks to do to all 'Kender' heros. He cannot however kill Tindertot until proven 100% guilty due to the creed made up in Celdin out of the ashes of Staghorn, from there the reminants of Valikorlia.

As for the war effort, an elf has died in the crossfires today, as a guard was said to have lunged at a elf whom was carrying a Kender off to saftey from one of the camps. He was hung, and his head intailed on a spike. However, this act was not carried out by the general force of the small army effort, but Eians personal guard. A civillian human from Ganelon was killed today too, falling into one of the traps layed out. It was unfortunate, and his family was grieved for and repaid their dues. He was only a merchant, half crazed from only spending a week in Hylund. Other than that the war effrot proves well, as another large farm was taken, and the attack on the fort proved easier than planned, with the Kender having everything on the outsides, however no Kender were present at the battle, in fact little are seen around the fort.

Another square off occured where a kender and one man died. The Kender only protecting itself, launched a rock from its hoopak, only to pelt a man in the temple, later killing him. The Kender was taken down by the mans brother. Otherwise, most Kender being evacuated and taken in have been overly accepting, and have even sported such occupation as a game, and give us no hassle outside of the occasional stolen goods.

Eian is proud to say, the war effort will be done in no time.

Eian Smarth would put up a new list of bounties, concerning the city, and his war efforts:

For the Hylund Effort

~Mysterious Green Garbed Humanoid, 30g for his indentity alone, and 60g for his head and garb.

The rest of the bounties remain the same.

~And any 10g for Kender smugglers, bring them alive! note: Not all body parts have to attend.

Celdin and the City Itself

Anyone caught smuggling illegal goods can be brought dead or alive, and the reward is a just 3g. More if illegal goods include weapons, poisons, or any other very harmfull things.

The man who attacked the sir knight, though the attacker is unknown, he is probably foolish, seedy, and black garbed. If you see this man or have any information of the attack on Cruendithas Pegason, the reward for name alone is 4g, and his head and evidence is 20g.

An elf named Cyngis is reported with black hair, and is smuggling kender in with a large jar, claiming it otherwise. Dead or Alive. 10g.

Celdin War Report on Hylund, Week 12

I have shocking and horrible news. I Eian Smarth have found a string of underground, and quiet litterally, activities going on. First, the Kender known as Tindertot is at large, having escaped his prison cell during guard changes. He is wanted dead now, under Celdin law of escaped prisoners.

Secondly, it seems the Kender are rebelling in sorts, and attempted a riot in the city. But due to their foolish way, most were more interested in the lake near Greendale and its dark path. Only one Kender managed to stay on focus out of 14 that came to the city. That Kender was set aflame, but unfortunatley not injured and escaped, he was called Zoppo, whom was the leader of such "rebellion", if one could call it that. However, I give special reconignition to Bromium, whom the Kender now deem "One angry, bean crushing unit", which shows how ignorant they are of greatness.

The people of Celdin and Kharlia no longer have to worry of the tablets that have been rumoured about. I have dealt with the false artifacts and they will trouble the weak minded no more with their lying folklore.

As for my last issue, it seems a burrower, has dug into my forces and rescued a captured Kender. He too is under arrest and wanted dead or alive. Preferably dead.

In good news, we have taken more farms and have a strong seige under way to the Kenders foolish fort, which they have been more cautious than planned.

The power and honour to Celdin, may it never fall. The might and strength in myself, this is General Eian, commander of the armies, and lord of Hylund.

Celdin War Report on Hylund, Week 14

I am throughly disgusted. As it seems, and as I've stressed to Master Vergoth, and King Charles, the Seanchanni, the Magus, and the Clergy are all in conspiracy to take down Celdin's government. But I am a fair man, I realize not all of them are apart of the vile corruption of the lot.

However, I am not a dumb man either. I am fully aware of the risks of letting any of those groups into my city, but I will not ban them, but I will have military escorts follow any such known Mage, Elf, and Clergy memeber.

This was made apparent when I sent a Sorceror whom I employed, and later found as given the false name 'Elsgradus'. He did his job to the state well as he did make a fool of the mages for opposing our rule, and managed to catch clergy memebers, magus, and elves all together killing what they thought to be real guards. It was a cruel way to show the truth, and even I am shocked at their reaction.

Though fear not good people of Greendale, I have put more of my own troops into the city whom are on constant patrol, more guard dogs have been rostered too, straight from the kenel to assure the guards will have no trouble finding goblinoids and Kenderkin.

The church will remain closed until further notice, and no one is to go into the clocktower. Anyone seen inside any of those two buildings will be arrested, this is due warning.

In other news, we have captured two more Kender, who tried to sneak past our guards last night, and we moved them to the new holding area. As for our guards, we are on the lookout for a man named Fim, whom left us a bloodied note and five of our good mens heads on pikes outside the camp a few nights ago. Any information regarding this man will be justly rewarded.

Just added: It seems Sir Bromium found evidence strong enough to lead a raid on the Seanchanni fort, along with the help of the Dwarves, whom have re-opened their gates. All was successful, and now the Elves can no longer prove a bother to the good people of Celdin. All their war machines and weapons have been removed, and no Seanchanni Elf is allowed to carry a weapon. It is also not allowed for them to leave without proper notice to the Celdin Government. However, it seems their leader Matrim had no integrity as upon the raid, it was evident he left the Seanchanni.

The power and honour to Celdin, may it never fall. The might and strength in myself, this is General Eian, commander of the armies, and lord of Hylund.

Celdin War Report on Hylund, Week 16

Good news and bad.

It seems the fair people of Celdin have struck a deal with the -Elves- of Seanchanni, causing them to be a dominion under Celdin and in accordance we do not intervene with us, and vice-versa. This pleases me as I will no longer have to worry of an Elven opposition to my fine work in Hylund, and if there is, I can no longer feel bad about crushing them.

Onto bad news, it seems that Kender reportly to steal a machine of war, good thing my guards captured the Kender with an assured quickness. However, we did lose a number of bolts from this...distraction. Though this seems out of character for the over-zealous lying Kender. They usally do not take important things, but the mundane.

Our efforts at the fort have been halted, though, while peristant in our goal, it seems we have to seperate our forces to help from strange happenings to the eastern side of Hylund, something of Kender pouring water buckets on my mens heads from trees, to blind them while they lunge and attack from the small brush at the sides.

Perhapes some force has reckoned with the Kender and managed to get some to actually oppose the glory that is Celdin, and if that is so I undoubtlabtly will have to do more exterminating than I wish to do.

Just brought to my attention is the sickening tale of a defowling of good horses, the Kender 'borrowed' some of my -finest- stallions and painted them variouis digusting colours. With the note "Eian is a silly." Which ONLY shows how stupid they really are! Hah! They cant even spell...But this is an outrage still. Such action cannot be tolerated! These Kender are making a mockery of what is WAR. Also I am firing a few guards who did not restrain a few...Drunken Kenderkin who stormed the city for a night of vile actions. In the end, even the Kender outsmarted the soilders and tar and feathered them!

So I put them all into debt of the government for the loss in the damages. Which included a roof, three stools...STOOLS! And a window, which was jumped through to escape capture.

All guards are to be on full alert, and prove that we are better than them...It is a must! A MUST!

A catapult?!~...::The note trails off into scribblings and oscure cusses::

Is rumoured to be changing his looks. We dont want him alive, only his head, if at all nesssicary. 35g for his death.

Celdin War Report, Week 18

Haha! Gloriouis news. It seems the fowl being known as Fim has been slayed by a great man of a greater family. He was justly rewarded and now the war of Hylund has come to a halt. The Kender seem not to care very much and dont find any problem with us taking resources from their caves. It also pleases me to report we have rid ourselves of the trouble maker Alexander Quinn, and his nonesense has been silenced.

However, their kind will soon learn occupations hardships, and their race will learn not to freely pass about other fine peoples wares. But the Hylund effort is not of concern.

It has been brought to my attention, now that I have returned from speaking to the King himself, that the southern part of Kharlia is in trouble, far out of the reach of Albera, the good people of Shiridian and Valdyr are under attack. The Balsica Confederation is in ruins, and the Haggalists have departed. And it seems now that unlawfull bandits in great size rule these lands. They have even opposed the might of Celdin, and now are a concerned threat.

I will postpone the occupation of Hylund and help the rightouss cause of freeing the south, bringing back law and order! We must stand together, for we cannot allow one peice to fall or it shall surley breed corruption amoungst us all!

PS: Any concerns dealing with -certain- forgewrought can be reported to me or my staff about their misdoings against the great nation of Celdin, and your identity will be kept safe, and the just reward will be 15g on rumours alone.

::Many of the reports between 18 and 30 are missing. But they held the times when the Xander rebellion was stopped.::

Celdin War Report, Week 30

It seems in my leave to the south, while I was liberating the good people from the vile unruly bandits, I was thwarted and removed of my title. Another insurrection in Celdin, bah! Such follies are a disgrace on the great nation I helped found.

And so It seems that this was the 'peoples' choice, more like the scoundrels I cast out of this glorious land, to stop their filth from spreading debauchery across the great city of Greendale. I fear this will be my last formal report, but I Eian Smarth am no stupid man, I still have loyalists and my own decreed land, and I will remain neutral in these troubled times.

But fear not! I will show guidance to those who wish to escape the decrepted lands that I fear will become of our beloved home.

The power and honour to former Celdin, may it never never fall in the minds of the true. The might and strength in myself, this is once Grand General Eian, commander of the armies, and lord of Law. Now rise Eisensmarth, holder of truth and justice! May the House Smarth reign supreme.

Eian Smarth would put up no list of bounties, concerning the city, and his war efforts, but will still offer coin to those heads he discretely disliked and who strongly opposed him.::
