Quick Summary for those who don't want to read much

The Orb of Hunger lets the user absorb any target spell, energy, or element in order to be used later whenever he wants, considering restrictions. Read on for a deeper analysis.

History

The History of this item and it's creator is a well concealed secret in order to protect those who were apart of it and it's brothers' creations. This is all that is told.

Description

This object is a Material and Energy Based object.

When the Orb of Hungry is not active, it generally takes on the form of a small white crystal orb around 1.5" in diameter with a swirling white mist in its center.

However when it is active, it's color, textural, and additional internal properties take on the form of the subject it has consumed (The forms are explained more in the functions section)

For each form, it takes on a general, but lesser imitation of the consumed subject.

Some examples:

Fire: The solid material of the orb turns a deep red while the mist inside mimics a flickering fire.. To the holder's touch, this orb would have a stern warm and "living" feeling.

Water: The solid material of the orb turns a deep blue while the mist inside mimics swirling liquid. To the holder's touch, the orb would have a cool sensation and a mild "slick" feeling.

etc.

Functions

The reason this object is called the "Orb of Hunger" is because of, one, it's an orb, and two, it has the ability to absorb any one single non-living subject, such as water, earth, mana, chi, a target spell, etc, as long as the user donates a small amount of their energy in order to "prime the pump" when triggering this ability.

It also has the ability to expel the subject at the reverse velocity of which it had when it was first absorbed, according to the position of the orb. However , for every moment the subject is kept inside the orb, it's energy is slowly consumed in order to support the energy needed to contain it. Only will is needed to expel the contents since the energy needed for the orb to function is being drawn from the contents.

This function gives the user the ability to both use the orb as a way to store objects for further use, like water for drinking, and the ability to counter target spells in a Mage battle with the exact same spell that the user is receiving fire from.

Technicalities, Rules, and The Additional Down-sides

  • The Orb is indestructible except by the following means.
  • The Orb may never absorb more than one subject at any time.

If the orb contains more than one subject at any time, the orb will cause the subjects in question to become unstable and chaotic inside the orb. Because of this instability of energies, the orb itself also becomes unstable and will begin to circulate the energies inside itself at an high and increasing velocity. As the velocity increases, the orb will increase it's own pressure on the subjects, but it will not be able to hold them. After a moment of increasing pressure along increasing velocity and outward pressure, which causes additional energy to be produced, the orb itself will no longer be able to hold it's contents, and will shatter, releasing all energy within as an explosion which radiates to a distance of 5' in radius, not considering shrapnel, damaging the user themselves at a lethal, if not near-lethal level. Others in the area will be damaged as well, but none near as much the Orb's user. This all happens the moment it absorbs the second subject.

  • The Orb may never be reconstructed if it is destroyed. Period.
  • In order for The Orb to consume the target subject, the orb must be within 6" radius of the target and the user must be in physical contact with the orb.

The target's energies will not do any damage to the user as it is touched absorbed, but it is still mandatory that they be in contact with it or the object the spell is contained in. For Example

If a mage throws a fireball, you must thrust your hand and the orb into the fire ball. The fire will be absorbed and you will not be burned.

If a mage is strangling you with a vine, you must touch your hand holding the orb to the vine to absorb the spell. The vine will loosen.

If a mage has thrown a boulder at you, you may touch it and gain the ability to throw one boulder of the exact same size and in the exact same way when expelling the energy, however it's not suggested since, while the left over energy in the boulder has been absorbed, the boulder itself is still flying at you at 200mph and will most likely rip your arm off.

  • The amount-limit of normal subjects that the orb can absorb is proportional to the weight of that subject that user can support in total.

The weight of the subject contained does not affect the user physically since the contents are held within the orbs own realm, however the weight still restricts the amount the orb can contain. This is because the orb bases it's internal-structural variables off of the users characteristics that it receives when "primed" before absorbing a target. In layman's terms, the orb uses your energy in order to construct its internal environment, thus, it is an extension of you, and thus, must follow restrictions based off of yourself.

  • The limit of active, or "spell type" subjects that the orb can absorb is according:

The larger the target absorbed, the more quickly the target is dissipated inside the orb due to the amount of energy needed to contain it safely. If the spell being absorbed is powerful enough to kill or near-lethally wound the user, the spell being absorbed is immediately expelled back out of the orb in the reverse direction, resulting in the spell reversing upon itself in front of the user, basically canceling the spell out (It's like a shield!)

This is a safety precaution taken by the orb to keep itself from over loading.
