The Seven Sins
History
The Seven Sins RP has been ongoing since January 2004. Origianlly started by User:Wind, it was developed with the help of User:Aurora, User:Gwen and User:Zangus, among others. It has been plagued with setbacks, most notably involving the extensive graphics work required for it. The problem was not the work itself, but that Gwen and Aurora's computers crashed, and they were not able to work on the graphics for quite a while. Wind created a sidestory to take up time, with the help of Zangus, Nadrion, and Levowitz, but the Flood happened, effectively haulting plans even more.
The second biggest obstacle would be Wind's wavering interest or lack of time for Val, which would interrupt the RP several times and cause awkward plot problems, and the crashing of -his- computer containing many graphics and levels needed for the events.
The event was first concieved to be a large, epic event that didn't end up with the world reformatting. Wind wanted to create villains that could not be defeated by conventional means, needing players to work together and think to win. This coincided with an interest in Christian mythology, and Wind decided to base his villains on the Seven Deadly Sins. The original version of the RP had much more material based on the mythology, such as naming each Sin after a Demon, but Wind discovered Lazurus had used a lot of it in his own RPs and Wind branched it off, combining it with his Astral Plane.
It is commonly believed that Wind stole the idea from Fullmetal Alchemist. This is not true, as Wind's event predated him seeing it by almost an entire year. Proof may be found in the Discussion tab. Similarities between the two are coincidence or common sense.
Introduction
A thousand years ago, there was a peaceful village of Callers, who could summon amazing creatures from another realm. The nation that would eventually be called Valikorlia discovered them, and fearing their power, attempted to destroy them. After three days of barely holding on, the seven greatest warriors of the Callers summoned seven spirits from the depths of the Astral Plane.
The result was a slaughter. The seven, posessed by the Seven Sins, destroyed the invading army, to the last man. In the end, they destroyed the Callers as well. Only a scant few escaped. The Callers did not know what they had done. They had initiated Judgement; once called, the Sins would destroy all life.
The Sins returned to the Astral Plane, where they waited, for a thousand years. Once the Planar balance was just right, they began to come back to this realm, and to take new hosts. They had begun a war on humanity, but the Flood and the Cataclysm stopped them. It was thought that they had returned to the Astral Plane, and for almost forty years they went unremembered...
...Until they were summoned, once more. Azenthius Esthras, one of the last remnants of the Caller tribe, and a lich, tried to seal them away, in an attempt to cleanse the world of them. He meant to summon them into this realm, and trap them using the rituals of the Ancients. However, he erred on two levels: firstly, he had underestimated the power of the sins, and having tipped the Planar Balance allowed them to escape on their own. Secondly, unbeknownst to him, several of the Sins had never left this world after the flood.
Stripped of his Undeath, Azenthius informed the public about the Sins, and they began to prepare for whatever was next...
Chapter 1 - Things That Refuse to Stay Buried
Azenthius gathered seven Seekers; special followers, each designed to bear the burden of one Sin and to participate in the summoning of Judgement, to cleanse the world and create Paradise. It was not long before hatred of Azenthius and his followers spread.
Several holy men of Celdin captured Arc Bladestrum, one of the seekers; Azenthius, Atna al' Faea, and Atalus went to rescue him; Azenthius threatened to decimate the city with his undead army unless the boy was returned, though this would prohibit him from entering Paradise. After a tense argument, Roxas was set free.
The first Sin to be summoned was Lust. It created a large forest maze, to which adventures were drawn. They were greeted by two beautiful women, one loving and pure and one scathing and bitter. They enticed the adventures, and lead them through the maze, and as they did the men felt inexorably drawn towards them. They flirted and went about the men, finally choosing the one that Lust had saturated the most. Azenthius reappeared and bound him, sacrificing him to encase Lust in a jewel. The forest maze disappeared.
Azenthius took a fateful ride on the new Train, and due to various circumstances ended up being torn apart by Bromium and an Alberean constable. His head was now in posession of the latter. However, he soon helped in putting Cahfei Shadespeak in his final resting place, and was granted his living body back. Free from Undeath, he realized that he had started something that might not be able to be stopped.
Chapter 2 - The Coming Storm
A mysterious noble decided to host a large mansion party. Sloth created a rainstorm so that no one could leave. A couple of the guests found a muzzled child in the basement. Bewildered, they demanded the noble explain. The noble, revealing himself to be Pride, and the child to be Gluttony, filled the mansion with poisonous gas and observed the guests running around attempting to get out. Several of them attacked him, but his wounds would not bleed and he soon made a hasty escape. His haughty laughter echoing through the mansion, it was clear he had just been playing with them. The men killed the child before leaving.
Pride was next seen interrupting a Tavern brawl, proclaiming himself an agent of justice, as the next Monarch of Celdin. He prevented anyone from leaving and spoke for a while, in a veiled attempt to acquaint himself with his future citizens. He did not stay long before leaving, however.
He was seen once more, in the same tavern, where he warned Arc Bladestrum that the Sins wanted Lust back. He toyed with the boy a bit before leaving once more, without Lust. He could have taken it easily, but had not, leaving Arc and Azenthius to wonder.
Gluttony moved next, fully healed. He was found wandering Celdin and was taken to the Tavern. He ate several plates of food, the plates themselves, and some candles before turning on a Celdin Guard, turning him into a bloody, unrecognizable mess with only his teeth. He escaped before any could catch him, but he had left his mark well enough.
The bandit path above Bridgeton was the scene of the first true battle with a Sin. Envy made her presence known to a group of travelers. She attacked them with her summon, a giant chameleon that could render itself invisible. She was distracted by a small, furry undead creature long enough to allow the adventurers to free a trapped comrade. Envy now fought them herself. She took considerable damage, having her throat ripped out and her arms slashed, but seemed to feel no pain. Azenthius decided that if she could not be beaten she could at least be incapacitated. Summoning his eagle to create a sandstorm and reveal the chameleon, he commanded his allies to attack it; if the summon was destroyed, she would feel a pain worse than death. Envy herself, who copied the abilities of those around her, phased into the Ethereal Plane to go stop the heroes from destroying her summon. However, Gaiden Starstalker was waiting for her, and promptly removed her head with her staff. The efforts of 'Smiling Mask', Arian Rogue, and Dax Issani managed to end the chameleon's life, sending Envy into shock. She escaped, scarred.
It was only a day before the next battle took place. Sloth was found, sleeping in Celdin's graveyard. He delivered the message that Envy was enraged, and would get both her sister back, and revenge. He also revealed to Azenthius that the history of the first battle with the Sins that he had known was wrong. The Sins being summoned meant they would enact their own Judgement; they had actually killed the Callers, and had not been defeated by Valikorlia. Many adventurers attacked Sloth, but his ability to freeze time prevented anyone from landing a blow, though Fimbrethil Taurelomea came close. He toyed with the warriors for some time, then had his summon create a large storm, assaulting the heroes with lightning, before disappearing with a warning that the worst was going to come now.
