Valwiki:Policy

Valwiki is a free-form encyclopedia, so there aren't an incredible amount of rules. However, over the years, we have encountered numerous problems that lead to the creation of certain policies. While the policies below are official, it should be noted that Administrators are human, and view things differently. Not all administrators are going to dish out the same punishments for the same crimes. Some administrators may not punish at all. That being said, there are no punishment guidelines, meaning that whether you get banned or not for violating a policy is luck-of-the-draw.

General Rules

  1. Use proper grammar and mechanics when creating a page.
  2. Though it is not against the rules, please avoid creating pages that are focused more on pictures than actual literary content.
  3. If the character or idea you are publishing has abilities not yet approved by an RPA, please put {{Unapproved}} at the top of the page.
  4. Do not vandalize pages.
  5. Do not publish vulgar comments or content.

Specific Policies

Image Policy

If you are using an image that has not been created by you, you should at least credit the author. Small images, such as weapons, do not need citation. However, images used for characters, or images that are core to the article, need to have an accurately cited source.

Sometimes, if the image is not well-known, administrators may not pick up on it. This is no excuse, and you should comply with this policy even if it's an obscure image.

Plagiarism Policy

All articles must be original works. If an article is found to be a copy of another work, it will be deleted without warning, and will not be restored. This does not mean that you can change the words around, and claim somebody's work as your own.

Unsolicited Edits Policy

Copy editing a page is allowed, but rewriting, adding, or removing sections of articles is not. Do not take the liberty of "fixing" a page without the owner's consent.

If a page contains material that you believe in unapproved, contact an Administrator or an RPA. Don't place the unapproved tag on other peoples' articles.

Vandalism Policy

There is a strict zero tolerance policy against vandalism. Vandals will be banned, the length being decided by the administrator that finds the vandalism. Vandalism includes, but is not limited to: inserting false information in to articles, breaking templates or article formatting, clearing articles, redirecting articles, inserting inappropriate images in to articles.

Harassment Policy

As with vandalism, there is a strict zero tolerance policy against harassment. Do not flame, insult, tease, flame-bait, troll, or do any other harassing act towards users.

Article Deletion Policy

In July 2006, the precedent was set that if an article relates to the server itself, then it should not be deleted upon a simple request by the original author. For example, a character page or pages exclusively related to characters may be deleted upon request from the original author, for whatever reason. However, articles on nations, factions, guilds, documents, items, and lore are not deleted simply because the original author requests them to be.

The wiki administration reserves the right to delete any page that violates any rules or contains patently false information. However, if the page is not blatantly violating the rules, the administrator will use the "talk" page to request changes or clarifications. After a certain amount of time, if those are not met, the administrator can delete the page. All deleted pages are able to be restored by any administrator.
